Define the DC/AC ratio at the POI

This article shows how you can define the DC/AC ratio at the point of interconnection (POI) instead of at the PV plant

The RatedPower tool offers users two options for defining the DC/AC ratio. Users can opt between defining the DC/AC ratio at the PV plant’s inverter level or the POI (point of interconnection). This allows them to design the PV plant’s configuration directly or let the software calculate the necessary one that fulfills the grid requirements.

The available options will vary depending on the user's choice in the “Power requirements” section of the “Layout” tab.

Maximum capacity

When using the “Maximum capacity” option, the software aims to increase and optimize the installed peak power (DC capacity). To do so, it asks users to define the DC/AC ratio.

  • If the user selects the strategy to define the DC/AC ratio at the inverters, the software will calculate the ratio at the POI.
  • On the other hand, if the user selects the 2nd strategy, defining the DC/AC ratio at the POI, RatedPower will calculate the resulting ratio at the inverters’ level.

Specific capacity

By using the “Specific capacity” option, users can achieve a certain peak and rated power combination. To do so, users can define:

  • The number of primary inverters
  • The number of secondary inverters (only when a secondary central inverter is enabled)
  • The DC/AC ratio at the inverters’ level or at the POI (these two strategies work the same way as mentioned above in the “Maximum capacity” section)
  • The rated power of the PV plant or the active power at the POI (depending on which DC/AC ratio strategy is chosen in the previous point)
  • The peak power

Users can now define either the DC/AC ratio of the PV plant or that of the POI and let the software calculate the rest of the outputs.
